All people should consider donation. There is no age limit for organ donation, it is the health of the organs rather than the age. When it comes to religion and organ donation, many religions support organ donation. If there is hesitancy about this aspect, speak to your local faith leader. 

 

Every 8 minutes another adult or child is added to the waiting list. Every donor can save 8 lives by organ donation and enhance over 75 more with eye & tissue donation. There are currently over 100,000 men, women, and children on the national transplant waiting list. Each day, 17 people die waiting for an organ transplant.

When it comes to organ donation and children, this is a very sensitive subject. The loss of a child or infant is simply tragic. In addition, the option to donate organs, tissues, and eyes is significantly hard on parents. 

 

As of right now, there are over 1,900 children under 18 waiting on the national transplant list. It is important to think of the size of the body and the organ when matching donors to recipients. That is the reason why smaller children receive donations from other young people. As for older children, they can sometimes match with adults. In some cases, children can receive partial organs such as a piece of a liver or lung. 

 

Facts: Most children under the age of one are waiting for a new heart. Most children ages 1 to 10 are waiting for a kidney. Most children ages 11 to 17 are waiting for a kidney or a heart.
